Workbook update fails + solution

Nov 24, 2013 at 7:43 PM
I had an issue where workbooks would update on one system and not on another. I was not getting any useful exceptions. I had a look at the source and put some extra catch blocks in to determine where the issue was ExcelRefresh.Com.ComHelpers.UsingWorkbook if you are interested. This gave me this exception
UsingExcel exception Microsoft Excel cannot access the file '\ukfs01\romaxfs\AX_Reports_Update\MISSING TIME SHEETS REPORT.xlsx'. There are several possible reasons:

• The file name or path does not exist.
• The file is being used by another program.
• The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.

This led me to this article
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dataaccesstechnologies/archive/2012/12/19/error-microsoft-office-excel-cannot-access-the-file-while-accessing-microsoft-office-11-0-object-library-from-ssis.aspx

so the fix for this one (a weird one at that)
SOLUTION:

For Windows 2008 Server x64: Create the following directory:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop
For Windows 2008 Server x86: Create the following directory:
C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop

Hope it helps someone else.
